Leafy Vine Tutorial for Swirlydoos

Hello Savages! Today I have a quick and easy tutorial to share on how to make your leaf dies 3-dimensional.

You can use any leafy vine you like. For this tut. I use the (spoiler alert) August Die of the month, Spellbinders Romantic Vines. If your perma you should be getting your die really soon! If not, check out Swirlydoos Store on reveal day, August 25th.

Step 1:

Cut out your dies using a thick white cardstock.

Step 2:

When coloring white cardstock I always like to use a light mist to get a variegated look.

Step 3:

Mist with a green shade.

Step 4:

As you can see I used Heidi Swapp Mist and Silks Paints. I used the paint on just the tips of the leaves along with some hand tinted glitter glass. You can fine glitter glass at my LittleScrapShop on Etsy.

Close up of the details

Step 5:

When the vine are partly dry use a paint brush and wrap the tips around. You can also pinch and roll.

Also lift the swirls

When they are completely dry it will hold the shape.

Hope you can put this tutorial in use on your next project!

Blue Fern Studios August Projects

Hello friends! Today I'm going to show you three layouts I created with three different lines.

My first page is using the newest line Frolic and based on the sketch. I loved the soft pinks so I went for a baby theme page.

Heaven Sent

I used the Mercantile paper as my background. I like to use the Calling Cards as a spot to put my title. I used the Dans le Jardin as my photo mat. A little darker pink to pop the photo.

For the title I used "Heaven Sent" from the Spiritually Speaking Set.

I used gesso on the Frolic bits and sprayed with light color mist.

Next, I used the Deja Vu collection. I love the purples in this collection and added in some gray. I plan to put this piece in my living room! :)

Cherish

I did lots of layering and distressing using three papers. For the very bottom with the punching I used the Lustre paper. Then I used the La Plume and Petite Cartes.

I also like to layer my chipboard. I used the Damask Panel and the Roman Clock Small.

For the title I used the large Cherish.

Lastly, I used the Ombre Collection. This is actually my last bit for this line! I love these colors!

The Sweetest

I used Charlotte's Dream as my background paper. And Joyce's Dream as layer.

For the Royal Monarch I painted them with gesso. Then, misted and painted. I did the same with the Quatrefoil Panel.

 And the Medium Symphony Corners.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Blue Fern Studios August Sketch Challenge

Are you ready to get the month started with a new sketch?  Our sketch designer, Michele Singh, has another great sketch for us.  This one could so easily be rotated to give it an entirely new look.  I'm sure we can count on you, our fabulous readers, to come up with something amazing!

Now it is YOUR turn to show us how you used the August sketch.
One lucky winner, selected by a random draw, will receive a prize package of Blue Fern Studios chipboard!

In addition, we will also select 3 (or more) layouts to feature.
We have just a few simple rules to follow if you would like to participate in our sketch challenge:

1.) Feel free to interpret the sketch as you please by means of taking it as-is or
flipping/turning/mirroring it to suit your needs!

2). Please note that you can do whatever type of project you please - a layout, card,
canvas, altered item- whatever suits your mood and style!
We would love to see the different ways our sketch can be used.

3.) You must use at least one piece of Blue Fern Studios chipboard OR use Blue Fern Studios paper on your project. Please note that you do not need to use the pieces featured in the sketch
- use whatever suits your fancy!  {Do not use any other brand of chipboard on your project please!}

4.) Upload your project using the Inlinkz tool on the BFS Blog by midnight EST on August 31, 2015

We look forward to seeing how you use our sketch and Blue Fern products!
